Pre-Treatment Recommendations for all Injectables
Before Your Treatment
Bruising and swelling are common after any treatment. If possible, schedule your appointment at least 2 weeks before any important social events.
If you are prone to cold sores, please let us know in advance. We may prescribe an antiviral medication to help prevent an outbreak.
Medications, Supplements, and Alcohol to Avoid Before Treatment
To help reduce bruising, avoid the following for 10 days before your appointment, but only if your primary care provider has approved it:
- Pain relievers: Aspirin, Ibuprofen (Advil/Motrin), Naproxen (Aleve)
- Supplements: Fish oil, Flaxseed, Garlic, Ginseng, Ginkgo Biloba, St. John’s Wort
- Vitamins: Vitamin E, Vitamin D
- Alcohol: Avoid for 24 hours before treatment
Optional tip: Arnica Montana (5 tablets, 3 times daily) may help reduce bruising when started 1 week before your appointment.
Tell Us in Advance About Recent or Upcoming Health Events
Please tell your provider before your appointment if any of the following have occurred within the past 30 days, or are planned within the 30 days after treatment:
- A cold, infection, flu, or fever
- Dental work
- A surgery or medical procedure
- A new tattoo or permanent makeup
- A vaccination
- Injectable immunosuppressants (for example, Humira, Enbrel, or Stelara)
DO NOT PROCEED WITH TREATMENT IF YOU ARE:
- Pregnant or breastfeeding
- Allergic to any product ingredients
- Currently have open sores in the treatment area

How to Care for the Treated Area
- Protect the treated area: Avoid touching the area until the next day. Gentle cleansing, moisturizer, and makeup are okay.
- Take it easy today: Avoid strenuous exercise or heavy activity for the rest of the day.
- Stay upright: Do not lie down for 4 hours after treatment, and try not to sleep on your side or stomach the first night.
- Delay other treatments: Wait at least 1 week before any skincare or laser treatments, or follow your provider’s guidance.
- Avoid alcohol: Do not drink alcohol for 24 hours after treatment.
- Avoid blood thinners for 48 hours: If your doctor approves, avoid aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen, fish oil, flaxseed, garlic, ginseng, Ginkgo biloba, St. John’s Wort, vitamin E, and vitamin D.
- Manage discomfort and bruising: Tylenol (acetaminophen) is fine for mild discomfort. You may also continue Arnica Montana (5 tablets, 3 times daily) to help reduce bruising.

How to Care for the Treated Area
- Do not touch the treated area until the next day. Gentle cleansing, moisturizer, and makeup are fine.
- Use ice to reduce swelling: apply for 15 minutes every hour during the first 12 hours.
- Avoid strenuous exercise or heavy activity for the rest of the day.
- Stay upright for 4 hours after treatment, and try not to sleep on your side or stomach the first night.
- Wait at least 2 weeks before facials, skincare treatments, or laser procedures, unless your provider advises otherwise.
Medications and Symptom Relief
- Avoid alcohol for 24 hours after treatment.
- Avoid blood-thinning medications and supplements for 48 hours after treatment, if your doctor approves. This includes aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen, fish oil, flaxseed, garlic, ginseng, ginkgo biloba, St. John’s Wort, vitamin E, and vitamin D.
- You may take Tylenol (acetaminophen) for mild discomfort.
- To help reduce bruising, continue taking Arnica Montana (5 tablets, 3 times daily).
Post-Treatment Instructions for Sculptra
AFTER Sculptra: Recovery & Care
Massage is an important part of your Sculptra aftercare.
Follow the 5-5-5 rule beginning the day of your appointment:
- Massage for 5 minutes each session
- Repeat 5 times per day
- Continue for 5 days
Use clean hands, gentle pressure, and a small amount of lubricating oil while massaging the treated areas.
Aftercare Instructions
- Do not apply makeup, skincare products, or other facial treatments until the next day.
- Avoid strenuous exercise, alcohol, and saunas for 24 hours.
- Sleep with your head elevated on the first night to help reduce swelling.
- Avoid dental work for at least 30 days after treatment.
- Wait at least 4 weeks before having facial treatments or laser procedures unless your provider clears you sooner.
- You may take Tylenol (acetaminophen) for mild discomfort.
- Stay well hydrated, as drinking plenty of water helps support collagen production.
