A youthful complexion owes much of its smooth and hydrated look to collagen, a fibrous protein deep in the dermis (the inner layer of your skin beneath the epidermis). Collagen is your skin’s key ingredient, providing structure and giving your skin its “bounce.”

Unfortunately, as we age, our bodies produce less and lower quality collagen, and the cells that make collagen (called fibroblasts) disappear over time. As collagen wanes, our skin becomes thinner, and lines and wrinkles become more visible.

When Does Collagen Start to Decline?

This decline typically begins in our early 20s, when we start to lose collagen at a rate of about 1% a year. That means by the time we’re in our mid-40s, we are facing a collagen loss of about 25%.

Our ability to produce hyaluronic acid—a substance that occurs naturally in all mammals and helps to keep the skin hydrated—also slows over time, causing and lines, wrinkles, and folds to appear. Sun exposure and stress can exacerbate these natural signs of aging by interfering with collagen production and DNA repair on the molecular level.

Aging and Wrinkle Treatment Options

Fortunately, we have more options than ever to help smooth our wrinkles and restore a smooth and hydrated look to our skin. Injectables and dermal fillers are a common way to lessen the appearance of wrinkles and provide immediate restoration of volume loss and facial contours.

At our offices, we offer a comprehensive menu of fillers and injectables, from neuromuscular inhibitors like  Botox® and Dysport® to Restylane Dermal Filler Products. All our injectables and fillers are administered by licensed aestheticians. These are in-office treatments that can be performed in 30 minutes or less.

Depending on the results you are seeking, Dr. Rudderman’s Medical Spas also offer a range of advanced treatments to help you safely and effectively achieve healthier and more youthful looking skin. The services listed below are offered at both our Midtown and Alpharetta locations, unless otherwise stated.

Low Intensity Treatments

Chemical peels: Chemical peels offer many benefits to stressed skin, including improving skin texture, tone, clarity, and the look of fine lines and wrinkles. Chemical peels work by exfoliating the skin’s surface and loosening and removing dead skin cells in the uppermost layers of skin so healthy skin cells can then rise to the surface (a process known as cell turnover).Chemical peels come in many different strengths and acidic formulations. Common acids in chemical peels include alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs), often used to treat signs of aging such as fine lines, wrinkles, dullness, and uneven texture.

Hydrating facials: Hydrating facial treatments like the HydraFacial are gentle alternatives to surgical procedures for women and men with a wide range of skin types and concerns. The HyrdaFacial’s patented technology combines deep cleansing and exfoliation with hydrating and moisturizing serums to treat fine lines, wrinkles, skin firmness and texture, brown spots, and pore congestion. The HydraFacial is quick (typically 30 minutes or less) and produces instant results with no downtime or irritation.

Microdermablasion: Microdermablasion is a popular, non-invasive skin resurfacing treatment. This modern technology allows for an even dispersion of crystals for exfoliation of your skin. The dead flaky skin cells are then suctioned away stimulating the lower layers of this skin increasing collagen and elastic. In about an hour, it can improve the appearance of sun damage, wrinkles, fine lines, age spots, acne scarring, melasma, and other skin-related concerns and conditions.

Oxygen Infusion: Great for all skin types, oxygen therapy is the infusion of essential nutrients for healthier, brighter, and more youthful skin. Oxygen strengthens your skin’s elasticity and, among other benefits, can help to even out skin tone.

PRX Derm Perfexion: The PRX is a skin tightening treatment without peeling or shedding. It’s a new and improved formula of a trichloracetic acid (TCA) that contains both kojic acid and hydrogen peroxide. These additives help control the TCA which provides the rejuvenation of the skin at the dermal layer without the peeling properties of TCA. The treatment session takes about thirty minutes, with no needles, no pain, and no downtime. This new treatment is safe for all skin types.

Moderate Treatments

Microneedling: Microneedling is a non-surgical system that stimulates your skin’s natural ability to produce collagen. It is a simple procedure lasting 10 to 20 minutes depending on the area to be treated. Microneedling uses miniature fine needles to create thousands of invisible, vertical perforations into the top layers of your skin. As a result, the skin naturally produces collagen and elastin to repair these perforations, minimizing wrinkles, reducing pore size, and improving skin texture.

VivaceTM Microneedling: Vivace is a skin tightening and resurfacing treatment that combines microneedling, radiofrequency (RF), and LED light therapy in a single treatment. Vivace can successfully treat multiple skin concerns, including scars and stretch marks, large pores, fine lines and wrinkles, redness and irritation, and more. Vivace microneedling is virtually painless, it is safe and effective for any skin type, and there is no downtime.

THERMIsmooth® Face: ThermiSmooth Face uses radio frequency to heat the skin and stimulate natural production of collagen. This helps strengthen and thicken the skin to improve its overall quality and appearance. This treatment is performed using a specially designed thermistor-regulated hand piece, which delivers precise heating to the skin’s surface though a series of gentle treatments over 6-8 weeks. Patients often say it feels like receiving a warm massage. This service is offered in our Alpharetta location.

Pellev: Pellevé is a new, non-surgical radiofrequency technology that stimulates collagen production to tighten skin and reduce facial wrinkles without surgery. It is FDA-approved for the non-invasive cosmetic correction of mild to moderate facial wrinkles for certain skin types. This treatment precisely heats the deep layers of your skin using advanced radio wave technology without damaging the top layer of your skin. This service is offered in our Midtown location.

Subnovii: Subnovii Advanced Plasma Technology by Cartessa™ is an FDA-cleared treatment known as plasma fibroblast therapy (or plasma skin resurfacing) that delivers low-frequency energy to target very specific areas of concern and rejuvenate the skin. Subnovii is a non-invasive treatment. The tip of the plasma device never actually touches the skin, but it’s the power of molecular physics that gives the treatment it’s magic.
