Nipple Reduction Procedure Overview

Understanding where you start & knowing about today’s safe, reasonable options for predictable outcomes…helps you make well informed decisions for now & your future.

The nipple is defined in two parts: the nipple and the areola. The nipple is the central part that projects and the areola is the pigmented area around the nipple.

Dr. Rudderman uses very small, nearly imperceptible incisions for his Nipple Reduction procedure. Working through these he can remove tissue, change the nipple length and diameter and improve overall contour and balance. If the Areola is too puffy, he can correct this at the same time. Many patients choose to have this done in tandem with other breast procedures, such as Breast Lift or Breast Augmentation, to achieve the most pleasing outcome and do it all under one anesthesia. Dr. Rudderman will help guide you through your choices to achieve the results you want and deserve.

Nipple Reduction FAQ’s

What is Nipple Reduction surgery?

Nipple Reduction surgery involves reducing the size (projection) of the nipple. Nipples frequently become enlarged after pregnancy, but may be enlarged during puberty and breast development.

Why treat enlarged nipples?

Enlarged nipples can be problematic in clothing and difficult to cover even with bra padding. Enlarged nipples in some women may be hypersensitive and uncomfortable in clothing. And enlarged nipples can be difficult to cover in bathing suits and workout clothing.

How is Nipple Reduction surgery done?

Precise incisions are made to reduce the excess nipple tissue and delicate sutures are used to complete the surgery. A light dressing for cover is applied. The resulting nipple typically heals with imperceptible incisions and little or no trace of prior surgical treatment.

Will I have sensation in my nipples after Nipple Reduction surgery?

Sensation may change following nipple reduction surgery because the segment of your nipple will be reduced. • Dr. Rudderman and his staff made the experience easy and comfortable. They were realistic communicating surgery expectations, expected pain levels and down time from work. Nurses were informative and friendly and wait times minimal. I also liked the fact that Dr. Rudderman does all his own work and doesn't let other less experienced people do parts of the surgery the way other doctors may. I'm only one week out of the surgery, but I am very satisfied with the results so far.
