Breast Revision Atlanta

Lifestyle & Breast Revision Surgery

Multitudes of women today are having Breast Revision Surgery for different reasons including: time has influenced their perception of beauty and balance; their original surgery did not meet their expectations but they just lived with it, old implants need to be replaced with today’s softer, more natural ones, pregnancy has caused weight and shape changes, new lifestyles now require change.

Revision Breast Surgery is common…because of change & often because earlier in life the woman & her surgeon’s perception of “balance” were not the same.

How Women Benefit from Breast Revision Surgery

Breast Revision Surgery can achieve the following:

  • Revision Surgery can soften breasts hardened by scar tissue
  • Old/deflated implants can be replaced with new soft, natural ones
  • Revision surgery can reduce visibility of old implants
  • Repositioning reduces the ability to feel implants through the skin
  • Replacing old implants creates a natural look & a softer feel
  • Breast Symmetry can be corrected by Breast Revision Surgery
  • Corrects breast shape…this often occurs during exercise
  • New implants achieve the size, shape, symmetry you want today
  • Today’s implants create soft, natural balance…to match your age, your body & your lifestyle today!

Breast Implant Revision Surgery

Breast Implant Revision Surgery involves correcting problems with asymmetry, modifying implant pockets, replacing old implants with new ones, correcting capsular contracture and more.

Breast Lift (Mastoplexy) & Breast Revision Surgery

Breast Reduction Revision Surgery is often done in tandem with a breast lift to correct an unsatisfactory outcome from previous surgery or to address age and lifestyle related changes. The lift is done by removing excess, stretched skin and repositioning the breast to a higher, more youthful position. This corrects “droopy breasts.”

Breast Reconstruction Revision Surgery

Many patients have chosen breast reconstruction following a mastectomy (unilateral or bilateral) or a lumpectomy that changed the shape of the breast noticeably. Reconstructive revision surgery can restore a more natural looking breast…and enhanced self esteem.

Breast Revision Surgery FAQ’s

What is Breast Revision surgery?

Breast revision surgery is performed on patients that have had prior surgery such as augmentation, breast lift, or breast contouring surgery, and where asymmetry, irregularity, scar tissue, discomfort, or malpositioning have occurred. Some changes may be related to surgical issues. Some changes may have occurred over time related to genetics, weight changes, or lifestyle changes or pregnancy.

Some patients have breast asymmetry that occurred during development and has either never been seen as attractive by the patient, or has changed with age and lifestyle, and patients present for evaluation for shape and volume adjustment.

Some patients with implants develop displacement (implant no longer positioned symmetrically on the chest wall), contracture (hard feeling breast from tightening of the capsular lining around the implant), or rupture (deflation or rupture of the implant shell typically with age of the implant relating to fracture (break) in the implant shell), and these patients present for evaluation of replacement, revision, or removal of the implants.

Will I have a board certified anesthesiologist for my Breast Revision surgery?

Yes. All cases are supervised a Board Certified medical doctor who has specialized in anesthesiology.

Does Dr. Rudderman perform the entire Breast Revision surgery?

Yes, Dr. Rudderman performs all of his patient’s surgeries. Many surgeons use assistants to suture or to perform part of the operations. Dr. Rudderman performs the entire operation on every patient.

Is the surgery done in an accredited facility?

Yes. All of our surgeries are performed in a fully accredited surgical facility using state of the art technologies and a world-class staff with all comfort and safety factors as the hospital surgery suite.

Will there be any pain with Breast Revision Surgery?

All surgeries involve some discomfort. Dr. Rudderman is highly skilled and uses advanced techniques and refined instruments that minimize discomfort during his surgical procedures. Many patients will take either Tylenol or minimal pain medications for several days.

What are the main reasons patients desire Breast Revision Surgery?

Breast asymmetry, breast discomfort, and appearance of aging breast are the most common reasons patients consider breast revision surgery. Patients that are concerned about breast implant integrity (is the implant leaking or ruptured), patients with hardening of breast after augmentation (capsular contracture), and patients that are concerned regarding general health issues and implants will consider breast revision surgery.

What are common Breast Revision Surgery options?

Breast revision operations may include breast lift, breast reshaping, breast implant replacement, breast implant removal, capsulectomy (removal of the implant lining), soft tissue revisions (removal or reshaping of skin and soft tissue), fat grafting (to restore symmetry, treat irregularities or contour issues), and combinations or additional tailored operations depending on your issues, individual condition, and desire for change.

Will a capsulectomy be performed during Breast Revision Surgery?

A capsulectomy (surgical removal of the tissue lining around your implant) may be performed if a capsular contracture is present, and if during surgery the capsule is found to be calcified or have irregularities or scar tissue that will interfere with the placement of a new implant. If implants are not replaced and the capsules are not removed, the capsule will persist indefinitely, and may close together, but will not disappear. The capsule, if retained, could be susceptible to fluid collection causing a seroma. The removed capsules are then photographed and sent to pathology for evaluation.

What happens to the tissue removed during Breast Revision Surgery?

If breast tissue is removed during Breast Revision surgery, or if a capsulectomy (removal of the capsule lining) is performed, the capsules and tissue are sent to the Northside Hospital Pathology department for microscopic evaluation, and a report is generated for your medical record with findings noted.

How long before I can exercise after Breast Revision surgery?

You will need to avoid all rigorous, strenuous activities for a few weeks until healing is adequate and Dr. Rudderman tells you it’s ok. We will see you frequently during your healing process to help you return to your normal activity as soon as possible. Exercise can be an important part or recovery, and we follow your recovery closely to help you reach your goals.

How long before I can return to work after my Breast Revision surgery?

Dr. Rudderman’s patients most often return to desk jobs in about 4 days. If drains are placed, they usually can be removed in 1-2 days as well. He will give you an estimated time frame specific to you during your consultation.

Will insurance pay for Breast Revision surgery?

Breast Revision surgeries are usually considered to be cosmetic procedures, especially if your original surgery was cosmetic in nature. Cosmetic procedures are not covered by insurance but your circumstances will be discussed and evaluated based on specific findings during your consultation.

Is financing available for Breast Revision Surgery?

Yes. Financing through Care Credit is available for all the breast procedures Dr. Rudderman performs.

Will I need someone to take care of me after my Breast Revision surgery?

You will need someone to drive you to your surgery, stay there and then drive you home and stay with you overnight after you have had anesthesia. Dr. Rudderman will advise you based on what you have had done and especially if you have small children. Your follow-up visit will usually be within 24 hours, and you will generally need to have someone drive you to this appointment.

  • Dr. Rudderman and his staff made the experience easy and comfortable. They were realistic communicating surgery expectations, expected pain levels and down time from work. Nurses were informative and friendly and wait times minimal. I also liked the fact that Dr. Rudderman does all his own work and doesn't let other less experienced people do parts of the surgery the way other doctors may. I'm only one week out of the surgery, but I am very satisfied with the results so far.
