Refining Previous Surgeries

Dr. Rudderman has special interest and experience in treating patients who are displeased with results of prior cosmetic surgical procedures. A detailed consultation may reveal alternative options to consider. Surgical outcomes may be suboptimal even with the best intentions and surgical techniques. However, meticulous evaluation and planning, coupled with a thorough understanding of desires and expectations of the patient, often lead to modified results and more acceptable patient outcomes.

Breast Augmentation Revisions

The appearance of the breast following augmentation may become problematic over time. Implants may shift position, become hard and uncomfortable, become visible with rippling, fall to the side when reclining and change shape. It is not uncommon to find that implant size is larger than expected, even though many women have concerns before surgery that they will not be large enough. Women may develop capsular contractions causing one or both breasts to feel to firm, and be painful. Some patients simply state that they were never really happy with their breast size and shape following surgery. Any of these issues can interfere with the way you feel, the way you look in and out of clothing, and can affect the way you dress.

It is common to hear a patient say she did not know there were additional options to consider. During your consultation, Dr. Rudderman and his staff will extend the utmost consideration to address your concerns and educate you as to your options for change.

Mastopexy (Breast Lift) Revisions

The appearance of the breast following mastopexy will change with time and aging. Patients who have undergone prior surgery may be uncomfortable with their shape and contour, scar tissue and general appearance. Aging, weight changes and pregnancy all affect the breast volume and appearance and can lead to breasts that look older than your age and health. These issues, coupled with lifestyle demands (exercise, clothing choices), often lead to a desire for revisions or surgical modifications that can contribute to a more comfortable and acceptable outcome. In your detailed consultation, Dr. Rudderman will explore your conditions and goals and provide options for treatment.

Liposuction Revisions

Liposuction often yields the best results when approached as an art form. Specific areas should be defined (with lines drawn with a marking pen) so that the patient can confirm that the area to be treated is the area of her/his concern. Skin shrinkage and irregularities are not fully predictable. However, small additional revisions may be appropriate to modify problematic areas, affecting a more pleasing outcome. Some areas will not predictably improve with additional surgery. Non-surgical alternatives may also be discussed that may contribute to improved long-term results.

Abdominoplasty Revisions

Abdominoplasty patients often have irregularities in contour of the abdominal wall following surgery. This is commonly secondary to pre-existing asymmetries in fatty distribution of the area that when repositioned in the best of techniques will result in a sub-optimal outcome. When patients are aware of this issue before surgery, they expect the possibility of that outcome and are comfortable with an additional option of revision to optimize the result. Weight changes, pregnancy and aging will alter your results and may lead you to consider options when regions of concern do not respond to further exercise or diet. A thorough consultation will help explore options to help you achieve your desired outcome.

  • Dr. Rudderman and his staff made the experience easy and comfortable. They were realistic communicating surgery expectations, expected pain levels and down time from work. Nurses were informative and friendly and wait times minimal. I also liked the fact that Dr. Rudderman does all his own work and doesn't let other less experienced people do parts of the surgery the way other doctors may. I'm only one week out of the surgery, but I am very satisfied with the results so far.
